I find myself listening to Mind Over Four on a regular basis and tire of picking out the gems among the filler. This tribulation is usually followed by a focused effort on assembling a kick arse DJL compilation of the band's finer works. In the case of Mind Over Four, When these boys are on they turn out some of the best punk/metal crossover ever recorded. Trouble is every awesome track is usually accompanied by other tracks that lack direction and sound like leftovers at the musical buffet. So goes the challenge of a crossover band. This is most evident with Mind Over Four's final 1995 release where I had to listen a few times to get a track that merits this noteworthy lineup. By then the group had become a mix of metal funk that just didn't work. So it goes without saying, this definitive collection focuses on the band's early years when there was really nothing else quite like Mind Over Four.
