It has become increasingly more difficult to find fresh symphonic goth metal these days. The world is rife with mediocre wannabes and copy cats. Took a flier on the latest Within Temptation fully expecting a worn out rehash of their earlier releases. Man was I off the mark. Hydra delivers on the female-led goth metal recipe with a lineup of fine tracks and a few fresh ingredients. Tracks featuring guest vocalists Howard Jones (Killswitch Engage) and rapper Xzibit are standouts among an already fine roster of choons.
