Since we had a little fun over the last Asaf Avidan release (at my expense of course), I figured we'd be about ready to hear another from this easily mistaken gender-neutral vocalist out of Israel. Avidan's latest release, Gold Shadow continues to lay down the funk and groove with the hookiest of hip melodies. His distinctive vocals are on display throughout the record, hitting impressive range on tracks like Ode to My Thalamus. The first four tracks are very good artsy-alternative while the rest of the record moves toward more of a folksy-lounge feel transforming Avidan into a modern-day crooner of sorts.
